Gardening
Gardening is a wonderful way to combine pleasure and purpose, much like self-care. Research shows that it can improve health and reduce anxiety. Gardening provides an opportunity to get fresh air and sunlight or create an indoor environment that becomes its own green space. Working with plants can also allow one to combine multiple facets of self-care as we yield results.
Gardening and working with plants are effective forms of self-care because of the flexibility it provides. One can plant seeds, seedlings, bulbs, cuttings, or just buy plants from a store. A person can choose perennials that come back year after year or annuals that sprout, bloom, and fade away. Potted plants can sit on the window sill or hang from the ceilings. Gardens can be tilled or raised. One can grow flowers, herbs, vegetables, and so much more. And, the best part, if one plant doesn't make it, you can try and try again!
